Having studied ballet as a child for over 10 years Dee was introduced to yoga in her early twenties after a dancer friend recommended it to her as an alternative. Immediately falling in love with the graceful postures mixed with the intensity and physicality of the classes, Dee began practicing yoga on a regular basis before leaving Ireland to spend time traveling throughout Asia and the Southern Hemisphere. After spending 2 years living in Australia, where her love of yoga grew more intense, Dee returned to Ireland. It was here that her practice deepened and she decided to further her yoga path through teaching.
Dee completed her first teacher training in Thailand in 2012 where she received her 200hr RYS Yoga Teacher Training Certification. She went on to complete a one week intensive teacher training with renowned Ashtanga Yogi David Swenson in 2013 before returning to Thailand later that year to complete her 500hr RYS Teacher Training.
With a keen interest in the areas of sports and fitness, Dee went on to again complete further training in sports-specific yoga. Gaining a Diploma in Yoga for Sports she learned the key elements of how to structure a yoga class for a specific sport, working on key areas of the body in order to enhance sports performance and prevent sports injury.
Dee’s teaching style is strong yet compassionate and her classes are always lead with an understanding of each individual’s body type and limitations. Her down-to-earth personality and approachability make her classes all-welcoming. She has a specific interest in the medical benefits of yoga postures, believing in an holistic approach to a person’s well-being for day-to-day life. With a keen interest in health and nutrition, she has completed many courses and workshops in this area, and has a good understanding of how to optimise diet in order to reap the full potential of physical exercise.
In 2014 Dee opened Urban Health, health food café / store in Ranelagh with her husband Darragh. She believes in promoting a healthy lifestyle combining yoga, exercise and a healthy, wholesome diet made up of real, unprocessed foods. She also believes that a healthy lifestyle is all about balance and believes in glasses of wine at weeknds, chocolate and laughing lots!
In 2016 Dee fulfilled a lifelong dream and opened her own yoga and fitness space above Urban Health called Urban Space. She currently still teaches in many of the top yoga studios across Dublin. She continues to diversify her training with workshops and courses on a regular basis and has taken workshops with some of the top names in yoga including David Swenson, Shelly Washington, Tiffany Cruikshank, Meghan Currie, Katherine Budig and Rachel Brathen, Nico Luce and Dylan Werner.
